Fairfax Information

Fairfax County, Northern Virginia, has an estimated population of over 1,000,000 people. It was the first county in the United States to reach a six-figure median household income, and it has the second-highest median household income.

Fairfax County has a strong service economy. The government is the largest employer, and many residents work for the government or for contractors of the federal government. The county’s single largest employer is Fort Belvoir in southern Fairfax.

Five of the largest private employers in the area are the Inova Health System, Northrop Grumman, Booz Allen Hamilton, Science Applications International Corporation and Freddie Mac.

Fairfax County has seven Fortune 500 company headquarters. That’s more than the rest of Northern Virginia or the neighboring state of Maryland. In fact, it is nearly as many as the state capital Richmond. It is also home to large companies such as CSC (formerly Computer Sciences Corporation), Gannett, Capital One, General Dynamics, and NVR.

Tyson’s Corner is Virginia's largest office market and the largest suburban business district in the nation with over 25,000,000 square feet of office space. Every weekday, it draws over 100,000 workers from around the region and is the country's 12th-largest business district.
